Holmes and Watson (“my Baker Street boys”, as Mary tells us all at the end) are seen raising baby Rosie and solving cases in a fixed Baker Street in a brilliant and heart-warming montage. What a comeback.Īll ended well and it is the happy ending that leads me to deduce that Sherlock is not coming back. He returned (five years prior to the episode’s set date) listening to no other than Queen’s I Want to Break Free. Mark Gatiss and Steven Moffat completely outdid themselves in The Final Problem, especially when they brought back (sort of) Sherlock’s arch-enemy, Moriarty. The reason why this episode worked so well as the final piece of the puzzle is because of how deep, twisted and thoroughly emotional it was crafted to be. How did he die? Euros murdered him.Īs the episode continues and moral dilemmas occur, prompting a passionate performance from Martin Freeman as John Watson, the tension only gets higher. In fact, Sherlock had told himself Redbeard was a dog to numb the pain. Or, as is exposed in the episode, his brother from whom he was inseparable.
#Review sherlock the final problem series
When Sherlock, John and Mycroft arrive, they are faced with a series of deduction challenges, culminating finally with Sherlock finding out what happened to Redbeard, his childhood ‘dog’. Sherringford is supposed to be secure however, Euros is actually the one who runs it due to her manipulative streak. Sherringford, the prison/mental asylum/”a grid reference for hell” as Mycroft puts it, is the location of Euros, who is so manipulative she has an impact on everyone who speaks to her. She tries to kill them and John in 221B Baker Street in the opening (and fails, thankfully!) and then completely manipulates them in a sickening, manipulative game. And it has all been ruined in the span of a few episodes by one man. This used to be one of my all time favorite shows, ever. Sherlock wakes in a fake room that built on the grounds of the old. Just got finished watching Sherlock Holmes, Series 4, episode 3, The Final Problem, and I can say with some certainty that I am done with the show. Last time we ended on the cliffhanger that Sherlock and Mycroft (Benedict Cumberbatch and Mark Gatiss) had a sister who, for some unknown reason, has been locked away her whole life.Įuros Holmes, played effortlessly by Sian Brooke, is the psychopath sister who is even more explosive than any of the Holmes brothers. Sherlock refuses to go through with the plan and threatens to kill himself in ten seconds. Mark Gatiss and Steven Moffat teamed up to write this episode and it was brilliant. The Final Problem – the third and, er, final piece in the Sherlock series four jigsaw puzzle – is quite possibly the best piece of television we have ever seen.
